About Lizzie

Lizzie grew up in Cambridge, New Zealand where from a young age she attended Cambridge Pony Club and aspired to follow in the footsteps of one its most famous former members, Mark Todd!

Her parents both horsey, always had the odd racehorse, hunter or show horse and her Mum, Anne-Marie especially was a keen rider. Lizzie has always ridden and has photos from as young as 3 months old sitting on the back of a horse! Growing up, she competed in all disciplines and represented her pony club at eventing, show jumping and dressage championships as well as being an avid hunt follower in the winter time.

She attended Waikato Diocesan School for girls from 1999-2005 before embarking on a GAP year in 2006 where she travelled to UK to be a working pupil for top British eventer Lucy Weigersma. It was this experience that cemented Lizzie’s desire to become a full time event rider and upon her return she was fortunate to be offered the ride on ‘Henton Attorney General’ (Frank) who was bred and owned by family friends Dave and Bridget Sutton.  Frank was a gangly 6 year old that Dave had been competing at Pre Novice level and despite being on the market for a while, had not sold.

Lizzie quickly bought a half share and together they moved through the grades, including becoming Young Rider champions in 2009, representing New Zealand at Young Rider level in Melbourne, Australia 2010 and winning team and individual gold. Upon moving up to advanced/3* level they won the New Zealand Advanced National championships in 2010, Puhunui CCI 3*, Woodhill CIC 3* and Horse of the Year CIC 3* titles. This culminated in Lizzie being awarded Leading Rider for 2010/11 season and winning the Superleague series.

During this time 2008-2010 Lizzie also studied towards a degree in Business Management studies at Waikato University and was very grateful to be supported throughout her studies by a Sir Edmund Hillary scholarship as well as a Prime Ministers Athletes scholarship.

Lizzie’s focus has now turned to being a professional event rider and in 2011 she decided to relocate to UK to pursue her career. She knew to become the best rider she would need to be exposed to what it takes to compete and win at the highest level. To help finance the move she sold a number of her top horses and is currently rebuilding a new team with the help of her very supportive owners and sponsors. If you are able to help in any way Lizzie would love to hear from you and is always interested in pursuing new opportunities.

Lizzie’s passion is producing horses from babies through to the highest levels and to date has produced Henton Attorney General, Push Play and Playtime NZPH to become successful 3*  horses. She is always on the lookout for talented youngsters so if you have or hear of something she would love to get in touch with you.

Lizzie also is a keen coach of riders of all levels. She has a great group of regular clients and also teaches clinics both at home and away so if you would like to train with Lizzie please do get in touch!
